Connecticut Sun star forward Di'Jonai Carrington slammed the creator of a meme that featured a photo of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on George Floyd.
Carrington was sent the meme shortly after Clark and the Fever beat the Sun, 84-80, on Wednesday night. The edited meme superimposed Caitlin Clark's face over Chauvin's body and Carrington's face over Floyd's body.
“Imagine thinking the murder of George Floyd was a joke,” Carrington replied to the post. “And it was all because of a basketball game. This is so awful.”
During his 2020 arrest, Chauvin held Floyd's neck with his knee for several minutes while he was handcuffed and lying on the ground.
Coach Carrington criticized the Fever fans after the loss, calling them the meanest fans in the WNBA.
Of course, the level of “meanness” Carrington experienced at Indiana likely had something to do with her mocking Caitlin Clark when the two teams played in June.
Carrington did not have a good night on the court, as on one play Clark knocked her into a teammate.
And in another scene, while Carrington was busy celebrating a score, Clark set her on fire.
The win gave the Fever their 15th victory of the season and cemented their place as the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference standings.
