Sunday Shows Preview: Biden’s threat to halt weapons to Israel sparks GOP outrage

President Biden’s declaration this week warning that the United States would not supply weapons if Israel invaded Rafah has drawn ire from Republicans and is likely to be the focus of this Sunday’s talk shows.

In an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett on Wednesday, Biden said that if the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) continues with its planned invasion of the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where hundreds of thousands of people have fled, they will not be able to use bombs or other attacks. He said he would stop supplying weapons. And a cannonball.

War and Biden’s warnings have divided Congress. Republicans have accused Biden of abandoning Israel in his latest actions, the most dramatic since the start of the war.

The Biden administration submitted a report to Congress late Friday finding it “reasonable to assess” that Israel violated international humanitarian law in the Gaza war.

Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland said the review was “woefully inadequate.” He said that if Israel’s actions were in line with international standards, it would “set the bar for the rules of war very low.”

Van Hollen is scheduled to appear on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday, where he is likely to speak about the administration’s growing concerns about Israel’s actions.

On the other side of the aisle, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina slammed Biden’s threats, saying they could undermine potential stability in the Middle East. He said he trusts Israel more than Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

Graham will likely appear on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and talk about his years of efforts to negotiate between Saudi Arabia and Israel, as well as Biden’s warnings.

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) called Biden a member of a “pro-Hamas group” and called the warning “disgusting.”Scott is scheduled to appear on “Fox News Sunday.”

Biden’s message has drawn further criticism in the House of Representatives. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, along with Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said in a statement that the administration would “suspend critical arms shipments. I’m surprised,” he said. To Israel. ”

McCaul is scheduled to appear on ABC’s “This Week,” where he will expand on his remarks.
