Sunday shows preview: GOP banks on Iowa; House divided on spending as shutdown looms

This Sunday's show will likely focus on the upcoming Iowa Republican caucuses.

The Iowa caucuses will be held on Monday, but temperatures in the Hawkeye State could be extremely cold. The state was hit by a blizzard on Friday, disrupting the schedules of some candidates.

Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis is scheduled to appear on ABC's “This Week,” CNN's “State of the Union” and “Fox News Sunday” this week. The Florida governor currently has an average approval rating of 15.4 percent in the Iowa caucuses, according to The Hill/Decision Desk Headquarters' Republican caucus voting averages.

DeSantis faced off against fellow candidate Nikki Haley on Wednesday in the final debate before next week's caucuses. The former U.N. ambassador took issue with DeSantis' campaign management during the debate.

“The best way to learn about candidates is to see how they run their campaigns,” Haley said at one point, attacking DeSantis. “He burned through $150 million. … I don't even know how you do something like that.”

“He has nothing to show for it. He has spent more money on private planes than commercials to get Iowans to vote for him. If he can't manage a campaign, how is he going to manage the country?” ” she added.

Haley will appear on “Fox News Sunday” this week. Governor Chris Sununu (R.N.H.), who supports Haley, is also scheduled to appear on “Face the Nation.”

The House of Representatives has been in turmoil recently over a bipartisan spending deal announced last weekend by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana). The agreement did not sit well with conservatives, who staged a revolt in the chamber earlier this week. A meeting between conservative hardliners and the recently appointed speaker was held on Thursday, with the conservatives trying to persuade Johnson about a different spending plan.

However, Prime Minister Boris Johnson told reporters on Friday that “the general agreement remains.”

“We are finalizing our next steps and working towards a robust spending process. So stay tuned for more,” he said.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who opposes the bipartisan deal, will appear on Fox News' “Sunday Morning Special” this week.

“I say no to the Johnson-Schumer budget deal,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “This $1.6 trillion budget deal will not secure our borders, stop invasions, or stop a weaponized government from targeting Biden’s political opponents or innocent Americans.”
