Sunny Hostin asserts that ICE is responsible for the crisis in LA during a conversation on 'The View'

Hostin Discusses ICE and LA Protests

During a segment on “The View,” co-host Sunny Hostin addressed the situation involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Los Angeles. She suggested that ICE should be held accountable for the unrest in the city.

Hostin mentioned that she had spoken with five residents of LA who described the demonstrations as orderly and non-violent, occurring within a relatively small area. This perspective highlighted, in her view, the dissonance between the reality on the ground and the administration’s focus on arresting 3,000 undocumented immigrants each day.

She noted, “There seems to be a larger strategy at play here. Trump has effectively militarized the state as a sort of test, likely preparing for similar actions in places like New York.” Her remarks implied that a deliberate plan is unfolding.

On another note, Hostin’s co-host Joy Behar chimed in with concerns about Trump’s potential distractions, especially referencing economic turmoil. “With tariffs harming the economy, what better distraction than to have chaos in LA?” she questioned, reflecting on the impacts of political maneuvers on everyday life and safety.

Whoopi Goldberg contributed to the discussion by showing videos and asking about the parallels between the LA protests and celebrations following sports victories in cities like Philadelphia, suggesting different societal reactions to chaos.

Hostin defended the undocumented by stating that being documented isn’t a crime and emphasized that people should not be labeled as illegal: “It’s a civil matter, not a criminal one,” she argued.

In response to the protests, Trump mobilized 2,000 National Guard troops on Saturday to secure federal properties, with additional troops expected by Monday.

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office also weighed in, comparing the protests to sports celebrations, challenging perceptions of how such events are often labeled.

The discussion reflected a blend of opinions and broader commentary on immigration policy, societal responses to unrest, and the use of force in political contexts, painting a complex picture of a deeply divided landscape.
