Discussion on Kamala Harris’s Political Future
On Monday, Sunny Hostin, a co-host of “The View,” suggested that former Vice President Kamala Harris should think about entering the race for California governor. This came during a conversation about Rep. Eric Swalwell stepping back from his campaign due to allegations of sexual assault.
Hostin expressed her opinion that California is, in many ways, like running a small country. She noted, “Mr. Swalwell was a frontrunner for the Democratic nomination. California has become the fourth largest economy globally, with a GDP of around $4.25 trillion. I would love to see Kamala Harris consider running for governor again. Sure, she’s eyeing the presidency—maybe that’s not the best fit for her right now—but she really understands California.”
Ana Navarro, another co-host, pointed out that the deadline to enter the race has passed, specifically mentioning that candidates needed to declare by March 6, with the primary election set for June 2.
Swalwell announced on X that he was halting his gubernatorial campaign, citing personal reasons alongside the allegations. In his statement, he apologized to his loved ones and supporters, acknowledging past mistakes while expressing his commitment to contest the accusations individually, rather than as part of a campaign.
Harris had declared in July 2025 that she wouldn’t run for governor. Interestingly, just last week, she mentioned she might be contemplating a presidential run again. Hostin has been a firm supporter of Harris since she took the lead in the Democratic Party in 2024 and previously asked her significant questions during an interview.
Harris, in her pre-election chat with the “The View” co-hosts, remarked that her approach would align closely with what President Biden has done during his presidency, reinforcing shared party values. As of now, Harris’s office has yet to provide any comments on the discussion surrounding her potential political endeavors.
