Sununu blasts Scott for backing Trump: He ‘wouldn’t have a job’ without Haley

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu implied that Sen. Tim Scott (RS.C.) should have supported former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley because he gave her the job.

“There would be no Tim Scott job without Nikki Haley,” he says. He told Fox News' Martha McCollum. on friday.

“Nobody cares what Tim Scott thinks,” Sununu said. “If he had done that, he wouldn't actually have been kicked out of this race three months ago.”

Mr. Scott plans to announce his support for the former president for the 2024 Republican nomination at Mr. Trump's campaign rally in Concord, New Hampshire, on Friday night, two people familiar with the planning said.

Both Haley and Trump were vying for support from Scott, who suspended her candidacy in November.

Sununu, who announced her support for Haley in December, argued that senators are worried about Haley because “she's calling out Haley.” She also reiterated her claims that the Senate is “overpaid” and “underworked” and is essentially a “privileged nursing home.”

“They're frustrated because they actually have someone in office who will hold them accountable and impose fiscal discipline that actually wants to drain the swamp.” “That's what Nikki is trying to do.”

“It's not surprising that senators feel threatened by that because they've basically spent their careers in public service,” Sununu added.

Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan also questioned Scott's decision Friday, saying he was “concerned” about the impending endorsement.

“It's certainly not good news. It's not that surprising. It's alarming,” he said in an interview with The Hill's “Daily Debrief” contributor Kevin Cirilli.

Hogan, a former co-chair of No Labels, a nonprofit group that aims to expand support for third-party tickets, has supported Haley in the Republican primary, but has not closed the door on her running for office. .

The news was announced just days before the New Hampshire primary, the first in the nation.

While Trump maintains her lead, Haley is gaining momentum in the Granite State. She leads President Trump by just 10.6 percentage points, according to The Hill/Decision Desk Headquarters polling average.
