New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, a Republican who is supporting Nikki Haley in the Republican primary, said Monday ahead of the Iowa caucuses that she is “probably not” his running mate. .
“Look, I'd do anything for Nikki Haley, but I might not be able to do it. That's not my job. I don't think Washington can handle me, Neil,” Sununu said of Haley. He told Fox News' Neil Cavuto when asked if he was interested in running for vice president.
“I don't know. I think it's a little too hot,” the New Hampshire Republican added.
Sununu announced last month that she would support Haley in the Republican primary after much speculation about her nominee. Haley has been gaining momentum in the state, with some polls in the Granite State showing her leading former President Trump by a single digit.
The average New Hampshire poll compiled by Decision Desk HQ and The Hill shows Trump in first place with 42%, followed by Haley with 31%. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is a distant third with nearly 7%.
Ms. Haley is also showing strength in Iowa, where recent polls show her in second place, although not far behind Mr. Trump.
Iowa is largely seen as a make-or-break state for DeSantis, who has spent much of his time in the Hawkeye State but has not been able to close the gap with Trump in the state.
