Super Bowl LX Performers Voicing Opposition to Trump Administration

The upcoming Super Bowl LX will feature a showdown between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots, drawing attention not just to the game but also to the artists performing who have voiced their criticisms against the Trump administration.

Artists like Bad Bunny, Green Day, and Brandi Carlile are set to take the stage in Santa Clara, California, either before the game or during the much-anticipated halftime show. Bad Bunny, the halftime headliner, has been notably vocal regarding the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in its efforts to address illegal immigration.

Last year, the Puerto Rican musician publicly condemned the actions of federal agents in Los Angeles and announced that he would be postponing his U.S. tour dates in light of these events. In a recent interview, he explained that a significant factor in not including U.S. stops on his tour was the potential for his fans to face ICE-related risks. He expressed concern about the implications of Trump’s policies, particularly regarding deportations during Trump’s second term.

Throughout September, he recorded a concerning footage of what he alleged to be an ICE raid in Puerto Rico, highlighting the impact of these operations on local communities.

When it was announced that he would perform during the Super Bowl halftime, the backlash intensified, especially as he joked that Americans would need to learn Spanish if they wanted to dance to his songs.

Green Day will perform just before the coin toss, paying tribute to Super Bowl MVPs from the past. The band has never shied away from criticizing Trump, ramping up their comments after he regained power in January 2025. Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong even altered lyrics during a performance to poke fun at Vice President J.D. Vance, and they’ve expressed their disillusionment with the current political climate, particularly after the Roe v. Wade reversal.

Brandi Carlile, who will perform “America the Beautiful” before the Super Bowl, has also been critical of Trump since his election in 2016. She’s conveyed her disappointment with Trump supporters and has actively spoken out on issues, including HIV/AIDS policy changes during Trump’s presidency. Ahead of the big game, Carlile hopes that her rendition of “America the Beautiful” will be perceived as a prayer rather than just a performance.

Despite differing approaches, all three artists share a common ground in challenging policies and expressing their views through their art. Whether through music or public statements, it’s clear their performance will not only be entertainment but also a platform for advocacy.
