In California, the well-loved bald eagle pair, Jackie and Shadow, have recently welcomed two chicks into their nest, prompting a naming initiative for the public’s input.
Friends of Big Bear Valley has launched a contest encouraging people to suggest names for the newly hatched eaglets. These little ones have quickly captured attention through the organization’s live nest camera.
To participate, individuals can donate $5 to propose one name, $10 for three names, or $25 for ten, all while supporting the conservation nonprofit.
As the sex of the chicks remains unknown, the names must be gender-neutral, and any inappropriate suggestions will be dismissed.
The contest will accept submissions until April 26th at 11:59 PM. More details can be found on the organization’s website.
Once the naming period closes, the final name choices will be handed over to third graders in the Big Bear area, who will cast their votes to select the official names.
Followers often watch Jackie and Shadow’s nest camera to observe the eaglets growing. Recently, it was noted that the chicks, while similar in size and age, have distinct differences in color and behavior. One chick, recognized for being darker and more docile, was seen venturing outside the nest, while the other two were busy honing their survival skills before returning to their father.
