Supreme Court Legacy Will Be 'Marked and Diminished' by Immigration Ruling

Supreme Court’s Impact on Immigration Policies Discussed on “Morning Joe”

During Monday’s segment of “Morning Joe,” Joe Scarborough, co-host of the show, expressed concerns about the Supreme Court’s influence on federal immigration practices. He argued that allowing immigration officials to consider factors like race and language could tarnish the Court’s legacy.

Scarborough remarked, “Brett Kavanaugh’s comments may haunt him throughout his career if he doesn’t reconsider them. He suggested that American citizens have nothing to fear, merely facing questioning before being released. But that’s simply not the case.”

He pointed to a recent report from the Chicago Tribune which highlighted instances of American citizens—many with valid documentation—being forcibly taken away. ProPublica noted there were over 100 Americans who faced detention and mistreatment.

Scarborough continued, “The Supreme Court hasn’t yet made a ruling on this issue and their inaction allows ICE to target individuals based on their skin color. I’m a conservative who believes in limited government, yet we see cases where educators are removed from classrooms due to complaints. Now, there’s a student at Boston University, and while he didn’t specifically mention race, the implication from the Supreme Court seems to be that if you’re a person of color, that’s somehow acceptable.”

He concluded, “This is the current state of affairs in America. Each day the Supreme Court, particularly the Roberts Court, permits this to continue, and while it may not mirror the severity of the Dred Scott decision, the consequences of their decisions will inevitably tarnish their legacy. If they don’t follow the moral example set by the Catholic Church and the Pope, this could leave a lasting scar on their reputation.”
