Shooting Incident in Anchorage Prevented by Armed Bystander

A shooting incident outside a bar in Anchorage could have led to numerous casualties if not for the quick action of a bystander with a firearm. The owner of the Gaslight Lounge stated that the armed individual was able to neutralize the shooter before further harm occurred.

Security footage captured on Saturday night shows the moment a man began firing a gun on a crowded sidewalk. The video reveals a security guard reaching for equipment when another guard confronted Leroy Manogiamanu, the shooter, who then drew his weapon and opened fire.

According to police reports from early Sunday morning, three men sustained life-threatening injuries from gunfire, with a fourth victim also found wounded. Manogiamanu, aged 23, was identified among those injured.

Bar owner John Patty recounted the events that unfolded around 2:50 AM. He informed his staff to prepare for danger when they noticed something was off about a group of individuals approaching.

As the situation escalated, a guard intervened as Manogiamanu began shooting. Patty praised the guard’s bravery, stating he confronted the shooter just moments before he could harm others.

“These criminals are endangering my clients, staff, and business,” Patty expressed. “In this instance, we feel just as victimized as the two men who were shot.”

Another guard was shot seven times but fortunately, no major organs were hit, and he was expected to leave the hospital the following day. Another security guard was treated for a hand injury and released shortly after.

The owner remarked on the importance of the armed bystander, noting that police indicated he likely saved many lives. Patty mentioned that the guards felt proud of their roles during the crisis.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident as a murder case. Strikingly, this shooting occurred mere blocks from the local police headquarters.
