Investigation into Disappearance of Nancy Guthrie
Just three weeks prior to her suspected kidnapping in Tucson, Arizona, a masked individual resembling the alleged abductor was spotted at Nancy Guthrie’s home, according to law enforcement officials.
Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie, co-host of Today, is thought to have been taken against her will in the early hours of February 1, as stated by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office.
On February 10, the FBI released surveillance images from her Google Nest doorbell camera. Notably, one of these photos was captured on a day distinct from the others, based on information from an investigator familiar with the case.
Authorities encouraged neighbors to examine their home security footage, specifically from January 11 and between January 31 and February 2, which coincides with the time around Guthrie’s disappearance.
An article from News Nation highlighted that January 24 also emerged as a relevant date, mentioning a neighbor who had been asked for video footage from that time.
“We can’t be sure about what that means, but it’s likely they’re keeping an eye on someone, possibly trying to connect the dots,” commented a former NYPD lieutenant. He shared on “Fox & Friends” that, although he felt skeptical, if forensic evidence reveals anything unusual, it could direct the focus of their investigation.
The suspect remains unidentified but is described by FBI analysts as standing between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build. Officials noted that the individual carried a black Ozark Trail backpack.
Additionally, he appeared to have a holstered weapon, although the exact items in his possession have not been confirmed.
Residents were able to use the Ring Neighbors app to share video footage, and it became apparent that early in the investigation, law enforcement officials recorded an image of the masked man without the holster or backpack.
Neighbors also reported seeing a suspicious vehicle near Guthrie’s home around January 31, along with an unidentified man wandering in the neighborhood during mid-January, who seemed out of place in his attire.
Michelle Young, a long-time resident, mentioned that investigators visited her house five times, and during one visit, the date of January 11 came up again.
Pima County authorities are requesting locals to share any suspicious activity captured on video from January 1 to February 2. There is ongoing speculation about whether the masked individual acted alone.
Indeed, more than $1.2 million in rewards has been promised for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts. For those with any tips, the FBI can be reached at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
