Minnesota Governor’s Approval Ratings Decline Amid Fraud Scandal

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, known for his vocal opposition to former President Donald Trump, is currently facing lower approval ratings in his home state than the president he often criticized.

Recent reports indicate that Walz’s popularity has taken a hit following disclosures related to a significant fraud scandal occurring under his administration. A poll conducted by Mason Dixon Polling & Strategy reveals that Walz’s approval rating stands at 39%, with a disapproval rating of 53%. Additionally, 8% of respondents remain neutral.

The poll, which included live interviews with 800 registered voters likely to participate in the upcoming elections, reflects Walz’s lowest approval rating since he began his term six years ago. It was conducted between June 8 and 10, 2026.

An alarming finding is that only 38% of voters trust Democrats to address issues related to fraud, in contrast to 45% who place their trust in Republicans. This sentiment poses further challenges for Walz’s leadership.

Interestingly, Trump holds an approval rating of 41% in Minnesota, slightly ahead of Walz by two points. A columnist noted that the situation is particularly damaging for the Democratic Party given the current approval challenges faced by Walz.

Moreover, there have been escalations between Minnesota and the Trump administration regarding issues like illegal immigration, further complicating the governor’s position. Recent policies have led to significant law enforcement actions in the state, including raids linked to the fraud investigation.

The new state flag introduced by Walz also appears to be unpopular among the voters; nearly 50% disapprove of it. Critics argue that its design reflects elements related to the ongoing fraud scandal, particularly impacting the Somali immigrant community.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer expressed strong disapproval of both Walz’s leadership and the newly adopted flag, indicating a broader discontent among Minnesotans.

Following the poll results, the Republican Party of Minnesota criticized Walz, with one senator suggesting that his record could become infamous if he does not step back from office soon. Despite the intense scrutiny, federal investigators have not charged Walz in connection with the fraud scandal.

Another state senator remarked that Walz’s administration pushed through radical policies while neglecting to address the burgeoning fraud crisis, implying that the public’s weariness with these developments is palpable.

Overall, the combination of these factors has led to significant discontent among constituents, with many looking for a change in leadership as they grapple with ongoing issues in the state.
