Survey Shows Support for Lawbreaking Among Young Liberals
A recent poll indicates that a significant number of liberals back breaking laws related to ICE when they feel traditional protests are insufficient. Specifically, 42% of all liberals and a notable 60% of those under 30 believe it’s justifiable to “go beyond peaceful protests,” even if it involves legal violations. Interestingly, among Democrats aged 18 to 44, this lawbreaking stance is seen positively, while those aged 45 and older tend to view it negatively, marking a stark generational divide.
More broadly, 76% of general voters acknowledge that politics has become increasingly confrontational, expressing a desire for a return to a more civil political climate. However, a troubling 57% believe that political strife and violence are likely to escalate. Notably, voters under 30 are three times more accepting of the current tone in politics compared to their older counterparts.
The poll was conducted on October 7-8 with 1,500 likely voters and revealed key trends. The most pressing concern for voters is now the “threat to democracy,” which saw an increase from 17% to 21% since April. Conversely, concerns around “inflation and the economy” dropped from 35% to 17% in the same period. Other significant issues include illegal immigration, border security, and healthcare.
When examining how voters consume news, the findings show that 45% of Democrats rely on national television as their primary source, whereas 44% of Republicans prefer cable TV. For those under 30, YouTube has emerged as the top source of news, with 52% of Republican voters and 51% of independents citing it as their primary channel. Interestingly, support drops to 35% among Democrats.
Public figures from both political parties have seen a rise in unfavorable perceptions recently. President Trump has a 54% unfavorable rating, while Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is at 52%. However, support for the MAHA movement remains strong at 74%. On the flip side, Chuck Schumer’s unfavorable rating is at 51%, while Hakeem Jeffries stands at 38%, with 15% having no opinion.
