A recent investigation reveals that Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of cases—including the controversial financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein—at nearly double the rate of approval. Specifically, a survey released by Economist/YouGov indicates that 56% of respondents either “strongly or slightly” disapprove of the president’s approach to the Epstein situation, while only 22% expressed approval.
Looking at Republican voters, there’s a slight majority favoring Trump’s handling of the Epstein inquiries: 45% approve compared to 25% who disapprove, with about 30% uncertain. Still, opinions within the GOP split significantly based on age and identification with the MAGA movement.
Younger Republican respondents, particularly those under 45, tend to show less approval of Trump’s actions than their older counterparts. Interestingly, self-identified MAGA supporters express a higher approval rate (56%) regarding Trump’s handling of the Epstein investigation, compared to just 38% among those who do not identify as such.
The Epstein case has dominated discussions in the GOP-led House, leading to a temporary halt on votes concerning the release of documents related to the case. Meanwhile, the Trump administration is attempting to manage the escalating controversy surrounding the issue.
Moreover, a majority of Americans—89% of Democrats and 73% of Republicans—believe that the federal government should make all documents related to the Epstein case public. Additionally, two-thirds of respondents, including 84% of Democrats and 53% of Republicans, suspect the government is concealing evidence. Epstein, who died in prison in 2019, is claimed to have been murdered as investigations continue.
According to polls, only 9% of Americans and 14% of GOP voters, among which 3% of Democrats and 14% of GOP voters, do not believe the government is hiding information. The survey included responses from 1,729 U.S. adults, conducted between July 18 and July 21, with a margin of error of about 3.5%.
