Vance Reflects on Lindsey Graham: 'A Unique Presence in Our Politics'

Tribute to Senator Lindsey Graham by Vice President J.D. Vance

Vice President J.D. Vance recently honored Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) after the announcement of Graham’s passing at 71 due to a “short and sudden illness.” Vance referred to Graham as “a unique figure in our politics.”

In a post shared on X, Vance reflected on his encounters with Graham, including a passionate disagreement over a Ukraine funding bill. Interestingly, he later learned that Graham had been advocating for a bill Vance cared about deeply. Vance also highlighted Graham’s impressive sense of humor, claiming he had “the best sense of humor in the Senate.”

“Lindsey Graham rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most influential figures in the most powerful nation in the world,” Vance expressed. “His story embodies the American spirit.”

He continued, reminiscing about a particular lunch where he and Graham had an intense discussion regarding Ukraine funding. The next day, Vance discovered that Graham was actively supporting the rail bill he valued. “That was Lindsey Graham. He fiercely championed his beliefs and was equally supportive when it came to others,” Vance noted.

Lindsey had an exceptional sense of humor and truly enjoyed the political arena. He constantly inquired about the dynamics of various races and how he could contribute. As he would often say, “If you have an R next to your name, I want you to win, regardless of whether you’re an isolationist or a religious fanatic.”

This heartfelt post followed an official statement from Graham’s office that indicated he had passed away on July 11.

“On the evening of July 11, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham passed away after a brief illness,” Graham’s team mentioned. “His family is grateful for your prayers and requests privacy during this difficult time.”

Reports indicated that Graham, who never married or had children, served in the Senate for over two decades.

On Truth Social, former President Donald Trump expressed his sorrow, calling Graham “one of the greatest men and senators I’ve ever known.” He added, “He was always busy working and a genuine American patriot. I’m really going to miss you so much, Lindsey!”
