Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) reacted to a recent report where several former girlfriends of Graham Platner, a Democratic U.S. Senate candidate from Maine, described his behavior as troubling. Collins labeled the allegations against Platner as “alarming.”
In a video shared by WMTWTV News reporter Connor Clement on X, Collins expressed her thoughts on the matter. She stated that Platner “has a lot of questions to answer.”
The reporter prompted Collins by referencing the scandal surrounding her likely opponent in the upcoming election, asking for her reaction and if she ever expected such a situation. She replied, “The allegations in the latest article are troubling, and I believe Mr. Graham Platner has many questions to address.”
When asked if she thought the allegations were true, Collins acknowledged that this report “will cost him votes” and noted that ultimately, it’s “up to the people of Maine.”
According to three women who had “romantic relationships” with Platner over the years, they reported experiencing a “pattern of heavy drinking and womanizing” during their time with him.
Lindsey Fifield, 40, a conservative from Virginia who dated Platner from 2013 to 2015, recounted that he was “blatantly disparaging” towards women. She reflected on his offensive posts, saying they reminded her of his disdain for women.
Jenny Racicot, 41, a Maine Democrat who had a casual relationship with him from 2019 to 2021, stated that seeing his past comments online reinforced her belief that he lacked respect for women. “I recognized the version of him that I had encountered,” she remarked.
Fifield mentioned that though Platner was “sometimes rough,” he “never” physically abused her. She described incidents where he would “grab her shoulders” with enough force to leave marks. In one particular incident, she alleged he “put her arm behind her back and forced her into the bedroom,” closing the door behind them.
Racicot also shared troubling experiences, recalling moments when Platner would come to her house intoxicated despite her requests for him not to do so.
Additionally, reports have emerged, notably from other outlets, detailing that Platner’s wife disclosed to his campaign that he had sent sexually explicit messages to different women early on in their marriage. Further investigation uncovered that Platner maintained an “active account on Kik,” with a profile picture depicting him “shirtless with a towel wrapped around his waist.”
