A manhunt is underway in Florida after a handcuffed suspect complained of chest pains and fled a hospital in a waiting Maserati on Saturday, authorities said.
Theodoric Collins, 36, was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Port of Miami on multiple out-of-state warrants, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.
However, while in custody, Collins complained of chest pains and was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for evaluation. Collins was released from the hospital after a medical check just before 2:30 p.m.
As Miami-Dade police officers began transporting Collins to the department's Warrants Bureau, police said Collins fled, handcuffed, to a silver Maserati waiting outside.
Police said the Maserati had Alabama license plates and was last picked up by a license plate reader in Jupiter, Florida.
Investigators described Collins as 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build.
Collins was previously arrested in Mississippi on felony charges of shoplifting, reckless driving, fleeing police and theft of property. WSVN reported.
In 2023, he was reportedly arrested in Alabama for allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase.
Authorities did not immediately release additional details about the warrant against Collins.
