Suspect in five murders takes his own life after victims' bodies are discovered

Man Found Dead After Oregon Murder Investigation

A man believed to have murdered five individuals in a rural community near Portland, Oregon, was discovered dead inside a vehicle in Enumclaw, Washington, on Sunday. Authorities suspect he died by suicide.

The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Benjamin Charles Parker, became a person of interest after five bodies were found at a home in a quiet area close to Forest Grove, located about 25 miles west of Portland, on Saturday.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office stated, “Investigators believed Parker was in Enumclaw, WA. The Enumclaw Police Department found Parker’s car and discovered him deceased inside. It is thought he took his own life.” In connection with the Forest Grove case, the Enumclaw Police Department reported that an unidentified individual was also discovered deceased behind a Safeway grocery store.

The sheriff’s office has assured the public that there is no known threat. However, it’s still unclear how investigators connected Parker to the case or what relationship he had with the victims. Detectives believe the murders were not random, yet details regarding Parker’s connection to the deceased and any potential motive have not been made public.

Earlier, officers responded to a vehicle fire at a property in Forest Grove, where they found the remains of five individuals along with several domestic animals. So far, authorities have not disclosed the ages or genders of the victims, their cause of death, or any connections among them. The specific types of animals found dead at the scene have also not been revealed.

Detective Shannon Wilde from the sheriff’s office mentioned that they are still trying to establish the victims’ identities. “Whenever there’s one person deceased, let alone five, it creates a logistical challenge,” Wilde remarked, highlighting the complexities of the investigation and the scale of the crime scene.

Authorities are calling for anyone who might have insights about the property or the individuals residing there to come forward and share any information.

“In my 22 years here, I have not witnessed a scene as complex as this in such an investigation,” Sheriff Caprice Massey noted, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

Numerous law enforcement agencies are collaborating on this ongoing investigation.
