The individual suspected of last week’s mass shooting in Germany, which resulted in six fatalities, reportedly escaped from a Turkish prison where he was facing charges of sexual offenses, including allegations against his own daughter.
Documents accessed by a German newspaper indicate that the man, who is believed to have fatally shot six individuals at a vulnerable mothers and children facility in Stade, has a troubling history in Turkey.
Fatih G., 45, was incarcerated in Turkey in 2021 while awaiting trial for various serious charges, including a significant sex crime dating back to 2007 in Kahramanmaras. He reportedly managed to flee from custody and is still being sought by Turkish law enforcement.
While on the run, he is also suspected of having sexually assaulted his daughter in Gaziantep, Turkey.
The alleged shooter was born in 1981 in Goslar, Germany, to a Turkish father who passed away in Turkey in 2021.
Authorities have largely dismissed the notion that last week’s shooting had any political or religious undertones. Instead, police believe the incident was likely connected to a custody dispute involving the suspect and the child’s mother, who was present at the facility with her daughter during the shooting.
As a second-generation Turkish immigrant, he is known to German police due to his criminal background in Turkey, which includes allegations of making violent threats. However, he had no recorded criminal behavior in Germany.
His personal life appears to be similarly tumultuous, with reports of three marriages, all of which ended in divorce.
This week, it was reported that two young children have been left as orphans following the tragic shooting. Just weeks prior, they lost their father to unexplained circumstances, and now their 32-year-old mother has also been killed in the attack at the facility where she worked.
