Investigation into Quintuple Homicide in Oregon
A sheriff has labeled the scene of a suspected quintuple homicide one of the most “complex” she has encountered in her career.
On Saturday morning, first responders were called to a vehicle fire at a rural location near Portland, Oregon. Upon arriving, they found five human remains at the site.
Firefighters who initially responded to the emergency at NW Otis Lane soon requested assistance from deputies.
Later, investigators noted they had discovered the remains of “several domestic animals” at the location. The identities of the five deceased individuals have not yet been revealed, as per a statement from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
“In my 22 years of service, I have never witnessed a scene this complex involving this type of investigation,” said Sheriff Caprice Massey.
As of Sunday afternoon, the investigation into the victims’ identities was still ongoing, reported CBS News.
During a news conference, Detective Shannon Wilde mentioned, “Any time you have one person deceased, let alone five, that’s a logistical challenge.”
Early on, detectives indicated that they did not believe this incident was a random act of violence.
On Sunday, authorities updated the public that they had located a suspect linked to the murders.
The suspect, identified by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office as 36-year-old Benjamin Charles Parker, was found dead in a vehicle in Enumclaw, Washington, approximately 200 miles from where the crime took place.
KOIN-TV reported that Parker’s body was discovered in a car parked behind a Safeway grocery store, and authorities suspect his death to be a suicide.
A representative from the sheriff’s office informed that further details about the case would be withheld until the next of kin have been notified.
