The man accused of burning the Pennsylvania governor’s mansion over the weekend was on bail due to the 2023 domestic attack.
Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family fled without injuries early Sunday. Cody Ballmer was arrested for the attack.
Ballmer was on bail due to the January 2023 incident. Fox News confirmed that police responded to a call from the 38-year-old Ballmer’s residence in January that month after his 13-year-old son called to report that Ballmer was behaving his wife.
The criminal charges filed by the Pembroke Borough Police Department regarding the case stated that Ballmer was charged with three simple assaults and that Ballmer took an entire bottle of pills in an attempt to commit suicide. When his son stepped in between Ballmer and his wife, Ballmer said to have pushed his son out of the way and punched his wife with a closed fist.

The complaint also said during the fight, Ballmer elbowed his 10-year-old son and stomped his foot. Reports say Ballmer’s wife also attacked him during the fight. She said she was acting in self-defense.
Court records show Ballmer will appear before court on Wednesday to face those charges.
Additionally, Fox News learned that Ballmer’s mother had called the Pembroke Police Station before the arson attack, seeking help from her son, who said he had mental health issues and was not taking his medication.
The police department said the call to warnings did not meet the standards for police intervention.
After his arrest Monday, Ballmer temporarily answered questions about whether he was mentally ill.
“That’s a rumour, but there’s no wife,” he told Judge Dale Klein during a short Monday arrest hearing.

Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens explained more at a press conference on Sunday.
