Suspected bomb plan aimed at Lady Gaga’s audience of 2 million stopped in Brazil

Brazilian authorities announced the arrest of two individuals linked to a bomb threat targeting a Lady Gaga concert in Rio de Janeiro. This incident occurred just before her performance at Copacabana Beach, where she was set to entertain over 2 million fans as part of her world tour promoting the album, *Mayhem*.

A representative for Lady Gaga told media sources that they were informed of the potential threat that morning. Importantly, they noted that there had been no prior safety concerns communicated to the artist or her team. They had worked closely with law enforcement to ensure safety measures were firmly in place.

The incident seems to have ties to a larger plot involving groups promoting hate against the LGBTQ+ community. Authorities indicated that homemade explosives were intended to be used at the concert. One suspect was reportedly a leader in the southern region of Rio Grande do Sul, facing charges related to illegal weapons. Additionally, a teenager in Rio was arrested on charges of child pornography; however, details on their involvement in the overall plot remain unclear.

Further investigation led police to conduct a series of searches on the homes of 15 suspects, resulting in the seizure of electronic devices. However, there was no mention of any actual weapons or explosives found. Authorities decided not to disclose the conspiracy to avoid causing public panic or misinformation.

In previous incidents, organizers have canceled concerts due to bomb threats. Notably, several shows by Taylor Swift in Austria were called off following terrorist allegations. Yet at this concert, Lady Gaga expressed immense gratitude for the great turnout and connection with her audience, stating it was an overwhelming experience to perform for such a crowd.

She reflected on the significance of the moment, acknowledging the vibrant culture of her Brazilian fans and the pride she felt while on stage. According to her, singing to approximately 2.5 million people set a record for a female performer, and she shared her thanks to the fans for their support and patience.
