Suspected human smuggler breaches Air Force Base day after teen migrant hops fence

A suspected smuggler eluded authorities on Friday and entered Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas, a day after a suspected illegal immigrant breached a fence at the same military base while fleeing from the U.S. Border Patrol.

According to Lt. Chris Olivarez, the suspect was pursued by Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers at high speeds through Val Verde County. During the pursuit, the suspect drove onto base grounds and continued to elude authorities. The base was placed on lockdown during the incident.

The suspect eluded police for about eight minutes before driving off-road and crashing through a second fence. Two illegal immigrants from Guatemala who were in the car were also arrested.

The day before, a 17-year-old Mexican national escaped from Del Rio Border Patrol officers attempting a traffic stop and jumped a fence at the same Laughlin Air Force Base.

Biden has been criticized within his party for using the same tactics as Trump to control the border.

Border Patrol deployed a canine team and arrested the boy after an hour-long search, and police also arrested four other adult men in the stopped vehicle, all of whom were believed to be illegal immigrants.
