Swalwell intends to leverage congressional authority to focus on Trump’s 'drug deals'

Swalwell Discusses Congressional Actions on Comey Case

Representative Eric Swalwell from California shared with CNN on Monday his intention to leverage Congressional authority to collaborate with President Trump regarding civilian matters.

CNN host Kate Bordian highlighted Swalwell’s recent assertions, questioning how his committee would engage in the ongoing legal situation involving James Comey, the former FBI director who has recently faced charges.

Swalwell expressed confidence that Democrats would bring a sense of “accountability” once they regain control of the House in the middle of 2026.

“We are making it clear that we’ll be the majority in a year,” Swalwell stated. “Our goal is to ensure surveillance and accountability—not just through the Department of Justice, but also involving the administration and private entities connected to these deals, which include universities, entertainment firms, and law offices, among others.”

Swalwell noted that everything will eventually come to light, hoping that this discourages further deals of a similar nature.

He also raised concerns regarding the timing of the charges against Comey, emphasizing that the initial controversy occurred during Trump’s presidency, which raises questions about the motivations behind the new charges.

Comey was charged last week with making false statements and obstructing justice, leading to accusations of political malpractice from Democrats who have labeled it a “witch hunt” by the Trump administration.

Swalwell remarked, “If this is suggested to be politically motivated, it’s worth noting that Trump was indeed president when these events occurred. So, if we’re talking about statements made in that context, I wonder—wasn’t Trump the one in charge?” He expressed skepticism about the prosecution’s basis, suggesting that Comey might be acquitted.

Further comments from Swalwell were sought by Fox News Digital.
