Only 16 teams remain in the 2025 Women's NCAA Tournament. March Madness began with 68 teams and cut the field last weekend. Along the way, players faced former teams, some teams won statements, records were broken, history was made, and the massive disappointment of unfortunate injuries.
March continues. Eight teams will be sent to Spokane, Washington this weekend, and eight more teams will be sent to Birmingham, Alabama. As the dust finally settles the following Monday night, only four teams remain to compete for the national championship.
We rank the remaining 16 teams and sort the chances of winning a national title in Tampa, Florida.
16. Oklahoma
Incidentally, it's been a fun season for the Sooners, who just landed the No. 1 recruit in the country at Aaliyah Chavez, and is on Sweet 16 for the first time since 2013. Unfortunately, Raegan Beers and Co. uconnHe has won 12 consecutive games since losing to rival Tennessee on February 6th. The Husky appears on the mission, and Oklahoma is just in the way.
15. OleMiss
If there's one truth Olemis That means the rebels have not retreated to them. The coach's team is not threatened by anyone. However, confidence in Lauren Betts and the Bruins may not be enough. Even if Ole Miss gets upset and can pull away from a talented, high-scoring team LSU Or the NC state is waiting.
14. Kansas
The Wildcats will be Sweet 16 for the first time since 2002 and have a real shot by upsetting USC teams playing without Superstar sophomore Juju Watkins. But even if the Wildcats move on to the Elite Eight, UConn is probably waiting. And the Husky zaps the Wildcats just like when Death Star blows Aldera away.
13. Maryland
Brenda Free is a great coach, Channe Sellers is a talented security guard, and Terps has a lot of solid pieces around her. But South Carolina appears next, and unfortunately for Maryland, we've seen this film before.
12. USC
Without Juju Watkins, there's a good chance that USC will fight Kansas. Even if they're comfortable defeating the Wildcat, UConn is probably waiting. Even though Watkins returned in December, it was a game where Husky Azzi Fad only played for eight minutes. USC won just two points. Unfortunately, it seems very unlikely for the Trojans to reach the Final Four.
11. Tennessee
Kim Caldwell's Lady Vols lost just four points to Texas earlier this season, potentially causing upset over the Sweet 16's Longhorns. But if that happens, they will face the winner of Notre Dame and TCU. It's not impossible for Tennessee to beat one of those teams, but they need to play the near-perfect game.
10. North Carolina
Let's say the Tar Heels can defeat Duke. They went on an absolute rock fight with Alyssa Ustby and Leniya Kelly Healthy at Carmichael Arena earlier this season. Second – if we are honest with ourselves, it's probably South Carolina. Currently, the UNC team and South Carolina team are very different from the teams we met in the second round last season. For one thing, this South Carolina roster lacks Camila Cardoso and Ashlyn Watkins. Second, UNC is not destroyed by injuries like it was before the season and can actually play more than three scholarship guards. Are these differences sufficient, or will Courtney Vangart fall 0-4 against Dawn Staley?
9. Duke
Now, let's turn that final point over. Let's assume Duke defeats North Carolina and gets a matchup with South Carolina in the Elite Eight. The Blue Devils lost 11 points to the Columbia Gamecocks earlier this season, but that game and ACC Rookie of the Year Toby Fournier were ineffective for Duke in that first match. It is also worth noting that in the rematch of the season, Kara Lawson was 4-0 and won in his second attempt against North Carolina, Louisville, Notre Dame and North Carolina State.
8. Texas
I know Texas is the number one seed, but even if it comes out of Tennessee's sweet 16 fight against unharmed, it's somewhat difficult to imagine defeating teams like Notre Dame and TCU in the Elite Eight. The horned frog is playing with momentum, and Notre Dame has already beaten the Longhorns by 10 earlier this season.
7. TCU
TCU defeated Notre Dame earlier this season, but Liza Carren and Maddie Westveld did not play in that game for Ireland. And having such a post depth for a center like Prince Sedona could make a real difference for Notre Dame. For the first time in Sweet 16, the horned frog has already exceeded expectations and is playing with the money of the house.
6. LSU
Kim Mulkey's Tigers feel better about their path to the Final Four in that they don't have to face South Carolina or Spokane's UConn, and their first opponent, NC State, is a team that is already beaten. However, Wolfpack saw LSU in November, so it's a slightly different team. For one, Tilda Trygger, who played just four minutes at the last meeting, is now a starting center in NC and has proven to be more than a maintainable player in Paint. Have you also seen what Wolfpack did? Michigan?
5. NC status
It appears they're clicking all of Wolfpack, who lost only once in the last nine games and defeated six NCAA tournament teams in that period. Madison Hayes is away from his career-high shooting performances, and Sanya Rivers keeps doing everything a little for them. The question of LSU and perhaps UCLA is, who will stop all these guards?
4. UCLA
With USC's Watkins injured, it can be argued that UCLA's Lauren Betts is the best player left in the tournament. If she bent her advantage with Sweet 16 and Elite Eight, Spokane's team doesn't have a team equipped to handle a 6-foot-7 center at the peak of her strength.
3. South Carolina
Memories of the defeat to UConn in February remained there, and people reminded them in the second round that these gamecocks were actually vulnerable when they began to slow down against Indiana and chased the Hoosiers at halftime. Of course, South Carolina stomped on the gas in the second half, but the Gamecocks can't afford to have a dull half against any team in the Birmingham 2 area.
2. Notre Dame
The Irish seemed to take action together, playing some of the best basketball of the season in their second round victory at Michigan. This is the Notre Dame team that ranked number one in the nation before losing in a double overtime in NC State, and is a Notre Dame team that can win this overall.
1. UCONN
Most online sportsbooks have made the Husky a betting favorite after Watkins' injury. And certainly, their journey to the Final Four has become a lot easier. UCONN is rolling, with the minimum margin of victory during this 12-game winning streak was 19 points against Clayton. UConn is easy to create with three big things. PaigeBueckers, Sarah Strong, Azzi Fudd, etc., this is better than any trio in the country, or even better. This may be the year when Geno Auriemma husky ends the drought of their national title.
