Sydney Sweeney Addresses Criticism Over Nude Novig Ad

Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in HBO’s Euphoria, has responded to criticism regarding her nudity in an advertisement for the sports trading app Novig. She took to her Instagram Stories to share images of various female athletes, including Serena Williams and Ronda Rousey, in nude magazine shoots, seemingly to lighten up the situation.

The 29-year-old actress appeared in a bold Novig campaign, showcasing herself in revealing athletic outfits while repeating the word “sports.” This ad has sparked quite a debate, as reported by Breitbart News.

In what seems like a reaction to the backlash, Sweeney also featured male athletes like Myles Garrett and Rob Gronkowski, who have bared it all for the sake of sports. This addition has been noted as potentially countering the criticisms against her.

Though she hasn’t directly addressed the negative comments on her social media posts, her recent Stories might be interpreted as a response to users expressing disappointment and disgust over the ad. Comments ranged from concerns about the sexualization of women in sports to calls for selling products without resorting to nudity.

One user stated their dismay, saying, “As a former athlete and a woman who has personally experienced sexualized comments, I’m genuinely disgusted and disappointed by this campaign.” Others echoed similar sentiments, arguing that the focus should be on talent and achievements rather than bodies.

In a prior statement to Variety, Sweeney explained that the campaign aimed to highlight sports in a fun and engaging way. She mentioned it was all about cutting through the noise and embracing a bold concept.

Novig, which launched nationwide last month, is a sports prediction market app meant for users over 21, operating under a federally regulated structure.
