Sydney Sweeney’s “Euphoria” Role Sparks Controversy
Sydney Sweeney portrayed an OnlyFans model in the series “Euphoria,” but former “Boy Meets World” actress Maitland Ward has voiced her criticism. During a recent interview with TMZ, Ward argued that Sweeney’s depiction is inaccurate and could harm the image of OnlyFans creators.
The controversy intensified after Sweeney’s character was shown in a controversial scene dressed in a baby outfit, which Ward claims misrepresents what it means to be an OnlyFans model. In the latest episode, Sweeney delves into explicit content creation, dividing viewers with her portrayal. Ward contended that Sweeney’s representation overlooks the many challenges content creators encounter on the platform.
“There’s all sorts of stuff that you can’t do,” Ward mentioned, pointing out the discrepancies between the show and real-life restrictions for OnlyFans creators.
Sydney Sweeney seemingly reacts to criticisms over her role as an OnlyFans creator in Euphoria Season 3: “There are hour-long compilations of world-famous male actors with nude scenes who win Oscars and get praised for that work… But the moment a woman does it, it degrades…”
Ward criticized the portrayal as “disgusting,” especially in today’s social climate. She argued that Sweeney is not showcasing the hard work of many creators but instead sensationalizing the culture surrounding OnlyFans.
“It’s saying, ‘look how weird and creepy they are,’ making it seem like anyone can just jump in and earn money effortlessly, which undermines the efforts of those genuinely building their brands,” she explained.
While acknowledging the financial success some experience on the platform, Ward expressed concern that Sweeney’s portrayal crosses a line. “You just can’t go into that whole underage thing,” she stated, emphasizing the inappropriateness of such themes.
As Ward elaborated, while playfulness can sometimes be acceptable, Sweeney’s execution felt gross and offensive. When asked if such portrayals might attract unwanted attention, she agreed, stating, “Yes. Exactly.”
Ward, who previously shared that she earned between $20,000 and $25,000 per episode on “Boy Meets World,” now reportedly makes six figures monthly on OnlyFans. It’s worth noting that OnlyFans has strict moderation policies, prohibiting content that implies creators are underage, even in a role-playing context.
