Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting, who failed a gender test, defeated Bulgaria’s Svetlana Kamenova-Staneva by unanimous decision in the quarterfinals, ensuring her an Olympic medal in Paris.
Lin and Algerian boxer Imane Kherif have faced heavy criticism over their disqualification from the 2023 International Boxing Association (IBA) Women’s World Championships. Both boxers will win at least a bronze medal, as the semi-final losers have no other matches.

Lin will compete in the 57kg class and face Turkey’s Esra Yildiz in the semi-finals.
International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach defended the match between Lin and Kheriff in the women’s competition on Saturday.
“It is completely unacceptable that such hate speech, attacks and abuse are allowed to thrive on social media and are fuelled by these agendas,” Bach said.
Lin focused on the possibility of scoring the winning goal and made no mention of the scrutiny.

“I would like to thank all the supporters in Taiwan,” Lin said.
Amid the ongoing controversy, Lin received support on social media from former Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen on Friday after she defeated Uzbekistan’s Shitra Turdibekova by unanimous decision.
“When I met boxer Lin Yu-ting, I knew she was a fearless athlete who would face any challenge, both in and out of the ring,” Tsai wrote. “Today, as she represents Taiwan on the Olympic stage, we cheer for her and all of Taiwan’s Olympians who make us proud.”
