Nottingham Forest Striker in Induced Coma Following Surgery
Nottingham Forest’s striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has been placed in a medically induced coma to aid his recovery after undergoing emergency abdominal surgery. The Nigeria international was treated on Monday night following serious injuries sustained during a 2-2 draw with Leicester City on Sunday.
Although the 27-year-old’s condition is not considered life-threatening, the coma is intended to help manage his movements and stabilize his heart rate.
Awoniyi collided with the post during the match and received several minutes of on-field treatment before returning to play. The full extent of his injuries was disclosed by the club’s medical staff on Monday, leading to his urgent transfer to the hospital.
On Tuesday afternoon, the club reported that he was “doing well.” Furthermore, Nottingham Forest acknowledged the seriousness of Awoniyi’s injury, which prompted owner Evangelos Marinakis to confront the pitch after the match, labeling reports about a conflict with Nuno Espírito Santo as “fake news.”
