Takeover group targets Newport Beach, more than 400 detained during Fourth of July weekend

July 4th Unrest Leads to Numerous Arrests in Newport Beach

Over the Fourth of July weekend, Newport Beach, California, experienced significant chaos, with police arresting more than 400 teenagers linked to a large-scale hijacking. This unrest unfolded on the Balboa Peninsula, where videos circulating on social media captured the crowd’s wild behavior. Fireworks were set off in the streets, busy roadways were blocked, and local businesses suffered damages.

During the period from July 3 to July 5, police recorded 402 arrests, while local fire services addressed 102 emergencies, which included ten fires. It’s unclear if these fires were connected to the disturbances.

The Newport Beach authorities reflected on the situation in a social media message, noting the immediate influx of youth into the Newport Pier area. They mentioned that as the crowd swelled into the thousands, dangerous activities escalated, disrupting roads and posing risks to families and emergency responders.

Joe DeJulio, president of the Newport Beach Police Association, expressed concerns about the unrest, alleging that a large group of agitators came to the area with a motive to incite chaos inspired by a TikTok event. He stated that the intent was to inflict damage and create mayhem.

In addition, online videos hinted at possible looting at local Pavilions grocery stores, with footage showing a disheveled parking lot filled with scattered produce and trash.

A spokesperson for TikTok confirmed that content encouraging theft or other illegal activities breaches the platform’s community guidelines. Meanwhile, Fox News Digital has sought comments from Albertsons, the parent company of Pavilions, regarding the situation.
