Illinois Democratic Party Rejects Trump’s Crime Proposal for Chicago
In light of rising violence in Chicago, President Trump’s proposals to deploy the National Guard have faced strong opposition. Both Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson criticized Trump’s suggestions, arguing that he lacks a real understanding of the community’s safety requirements while also defunding vital safety agencies.
Over the past weekend, gun violence in Chicago resulted in three fatalities, along with over a dozen injuries from various mass shootings. According to data gathered by the Chicago Police Department, a total of 15 individuals were shot within just three days, with victims’ ages ranging from 17 to 57.
This recent surge in violence shows a slight decrease compared to the previous weekend around the June 1 holiday, which saw six deaths and many more injured due to gunfire.
In response to these ongoing issues, Mayor Johnson recently signed an executive order to establish the Office of Gun Violence Reduction. He emphasized the need to combat violence and alleviate the cycle of trauma affecting countless residents. “From my first day in office, my top priority has been to eliminate violence,” he remarked, highlighting a commitment to leveraging all possible resources to enhance community safety.
Just hours after this executive order was signed, two men were found with gunshot wounds in a shooting that remains under investigation. Police indicated the victims were discovered behind a residence.
Efforts to address gun violence continue, and Fox News Digital has sought comments from both Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson regarding the situation, but responses are pending.
