Actress Taraji P. Henson preached to black voters at the BET Awards on Sunday, seemingly trying to convince them to continue supporting Joe Biden, as she falsely claimed that “being homeless is a crime” and incorrectly suggested that Republicans are “trying to reinstate the draft.”
An emotional Taraji P. Henson screamed at the camera during Sunday’s broadcast, awkwardly interrupting the celebration with a political speech. Her speech came just days after Biden’s disastrous debate performance, which called into question his viability as a political candidate and even as commander in chief.
“I’m telling people they better go vote, they better bring their ballot,” she began. “I’m serious right now. I know I look good.”

She continued, “It’s time to play chess, not checkers. It’s time to make decisions that will affect us as people, our careers, and our next generations,” before raising her voice and adding, “Did you know that being homeless has become a crime? Take note. It’s not a secret. Look it up.”
Henson appeared to be referring to a recent Supreme Court decision that gave local governments the power to ban sleeping or camping on sidewalks and other public spaces. The decision does not make homelessness a crime, as Henson falsely claimed, but rather gives local authorities the power to clear out the drug-infested homeless camps that plague many large cities.

Henson appeared to be referring to a recently passed House bill that would change Selective Draft Registration by automatically registering men between the ages of 18 and 26. The bipartisan bill was sponsored by Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pennsylvania).
The bill does not aim to “reinstate conscription,” as the actress said.
Henson’s political speech drew weak applause from the audience at L.A. Live’s Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, but cameras showed many in the crowd not applauding her.
That evening, Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a pre-recorded speech, asserting, “I’m here in the streets.”
As record inflation and a steady influx of illegal immigrants disproportionately hit the black community, black support for Biden has plummeted. As Breitbart News reported, an I&I/TIPP poll released in May found that Biden’s support among black voters had fallen by 28 percentage points.
