Tariffs Are ‘a Tax’ ‘Will Be Passed’ to Consumer

On CNN's “Source” aired Wednesday, Sen. Mark Wayne Marin (R-OK) said he sees President Donald Trump's economic policies working and tariffs as a tool to open foreign markets to American businesses and leverage other issues. [are] Taxes, and it will be handed over[to] Consumers. ”

Marin said, “It's difficult now. And I understand that. I'm a business owner. We all make decisions based on two things. Before politics, all I've done was business. There's a need for certainty. That's why we need permanent tax policy and it can't go away. I'm not trying to get down on that subject, but I'm just saying that certainty is needed in the business world. Tariffs. [are] Taxes, and it will be handed over[to] Consumers. But it also allows us to have an open market. ”

He continued. “So, if you want to have open markets and access to other markets, then go past Canada and Mexico and start talking about other countries that the president says they want to impose on each other. If you charge 36%, you charge 36%. If you charge zero, you charge zero. All of these countries want[s] Access to the world's most powerful and largest economy. That's the United States. We don't necessarily have their market, but if they have access to us, we want to access their market. ”

Marin also said there was some movement in that there was an issue with illegality on the northern and southern borders, and that some tariffs were designed to deal with it, but that Trump's economic policies would ultimately succeed.
