Tariffs Will Make Us Prosperous; We Don’t Need ‘Trash’ from China

On Sunday, during an appearance on “Meet the Press,” President Donald Trump expressed that he believes tariffs will ultimately make the United States wealthier.

“Taxes will enrich us. We will become a very rich country,” Trump stated.

Host Kristen Welker posed a question, suggesting, “Your children might have just two dolls instead of 30. Are you implying that tariffs will raise prices?”

“No, I think tariffs are beneficial for us,” Trump responded.

“I did mention that dolls would cost more. I believe approval would raise the price,” he added.

“Honestly, I don’t think an 11-year-old girl needs 30 dolls. A few dolls, maybe three or four, would suffice. The situation with China has been remarkable. We’ve lost hundreds of millions with them,” Trump remarked.

Welker followed up, asking, “When discussing three dolls versus 30, do Americans perceive empty store shelves?”

Trump clarified, “No, that’s not my point. I’m saying they don’t require 30 dolls. They can manage with three. They don’t need 250 pencils; five would do.”

“Essentially, we’re suggesting there’s a supply shortage,” Welker said.

“We shouldn’t waste money on the trade deficit with China for items that aren’t essential,” Trump concluded.
