Tarik Skubal Shines in Tigers’ Win Over Twins
On Sunday, Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal delivered a standout performance against the Minnesota Twins, showcasing why he’s considered one of the best in baseball. Over seven innings, Skubal struck out 13 batters while allowing just a single hit, leading the Tigers to a narrow 1-0 victory. This win marks a significant achievement in franchise history.
With this win, Skubal became the first pitcher in Tigers history to strike out 13 batters in a game while giving up only one hit. Notably, this was also his tenth consecutive win decision.
“I really appreciate the expectations from the fans and everyone watching,” Skubal remarked. “But at the end of the day, I just want to win. That’s what matters to me—taking home another series win. I hold myself to those same expectations.”
Skubal’s exceptional performance lowered his ERA to 2.15, putting him at the top of the league with 138 strikeouts—Garrett Crochet of the Boston Red Sox is currently in second place with 135. It seems quite likely that Skubal is positioning himself for another AL Cy Young Award.
In addition to Skubal’s accolades, teammates Riley Green and Kelly Carpenter contributed with solo home runs, while Carpenter added another RBI to his record. The Tigers currently stand strong with a 53-22 season record, while the Twins fall to 40-44.
