In Baton Rouge, the tax returner from Amite has been taken into custody for allegedly trying to claim a tax return of tens of thousands of dollars connected to a gambling prize on behalf of a client.
Todd Ramon Mabrie faces accusations of submitting a fraudulent tax withholding form for an uninformed client, who is reportedly set to receive a $158,233 gambling prize from Bellage Casino in Baton Rouge.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigations from the Louisiana Department of Revenue revealed that Mabrie attempted to claim a state income tax refund of $25,552, based on fabricated gambling prize earnings.
Arrested on Tuesday, Mabrie is now facing charges of attempted theft, computer fraud, and filing false public records at the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail.
Authorities are also looking into other individuals involved in questionable fraud activities. Mabrie marks the 77th arrest under a collaborative anti-tax fraud effort between the Louisiana Department of Revenue and the state Attorney General’s Office, according to the LDR.
