In a recent interview with Fox News, Vice President Kamala Harris referred to taxpayer-funded gender reassignment surgeries for prisoners and undocumented immigrants as a “remote” issue.
The topic came up when journalist Bret Baier asked Kamala about a series of Trump ads highlighting her past comments about taxpayer-funded surgeries on prisoners.
“We seem to have broken through some of that. This particular ad from the Trump campaign is getting a lot of attention,” Baier said before the ad ran.
The ad, which ran during a football game last month, shared a direct quote from Kamala Harris supporting taxpayer-funded prison surgeries.
“It will be accessible to all transgender inmates in our prisons,” she says in the ad.
“Do you still support using tax dollars to help inmates in prisons and undocumented immigrants in custody transition to a different gender?” Baier asked Kamala Harris.
Kamala Harris later said she would “follow the law” and even claimed that former President Trump had implemented the same policy under his administration.
“I follow the law, and it's the law that Donald Trump actually followed. Under Donald Trump's administration, it was made public that people in federal prisons could receive these surgeries based on medical necessity. “Frankly, I think that Trump campaign ad is like throwing rocks when you live in a glass house,” she said.
“Trump's aides say he never supported his prison policy and that no sex-reassignment surgeries were performed while he was president,” Baier countered.
Kamala Harris responded: “I have to take responsibility for what happened in my administration.”
When Baier asked if she would “continue to support tax-funded gender reassignment surgery,” Kamala Harris said she would once again “follow the law,” although she called it a “remote” issue.
“He spent $20 million on these ads trying to instill fear in voters, because the fact is he has no plan to focus this election on the needs of the American people. He was paid $20 million for that ad on an issue that is related to the biggest issues affecting the nation, but is actually a completely fringe issue, and again, his policies were no different.” she said.
