Taylor Farms' complete recall list following a cyclosporiasis outbreak causing severe diarrhea

Agriculture giant Taylor Farms has announced a comprehensive list of products that have been recalled due to a Cyclospora outbreak affecting numerous individuals across five states.

The company has voluntarily removed all iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico from U.S. markets, citing potential contamination with Cyclospora bacteria.

The shredded iceberg lettuce was distributed between June 29 and July 16 in 27 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

So far, Taylor Farms has reported no links between its branded salads or kits and the outbreak.

A complete list of recalled products, including lot codes and expiration dates, is available on their website.

Consumers who have purchased the affected products are urged to discard them immediately. Refunds are being offered at the point of purchase.

In a recall notice, the company stated they are actively removing the impacted products and have ceased distribution of iceberg lettuce from central Mexico. They’re also coordinating with the FDA, CDC, and state authorities on the matter.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noted that the outbreak is connected to shredded iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell restaurants in states like Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia.

According to the FDA, investigations revealed that cases pointed towards a single supplier—Taylor Farms in Mexico—after sick individuals consumed the shredded iceberg lettuce from Taco Bell.

Taco Bell confirmed it has completely removed the affected lettuce from stores.

Cyclospora leads to cyclosporiasis, an intestinal condition often marked by prolonged diarrhea, but can also cause stomach cramps, nausea, fatigue, bloating, weight loss, and low-grade fever, as per CDC guidelines. Vulnerable groups, like the elderly and those with weakened immune systems, may face more severe symptoms.

Taylor Farms distributes products through major retailers like Target, Walmart, Whole Foods Market, and Amazon Fresh.

Notably, the company’s private label salad kits do not feature iceberg lettuce, and they emphasized that none of their salads or kits are linked to the current outbreak.

For queries, consumers can reach Taylor Farms’ customer care team on weekdays during business hours.

The company expressed deep concern for those impacted by the illness and a commitment to rebuilding confidence in the safety of fresh food.
