Travis Kels seemed a bit nervous when he surprised Taylor Swift with a suggestion. During a Monday night episode of “Tonight’s Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” the 35-year-old singer spoke fondly about her engagement.
Fallon, along with Travis’s brother Jason Kelse and Swift, talked about how Travis proposed after they finished recording an episode of the podcast “New Heights.”
Swift shared how she had a hunch about Travis’s proposal, saying, “For Travis, I think the podcast was a distraction and a way to keep me out of the windows at home.” She reminisced about how he left blackout curtains in every window of their house.
Travis felt he was being quite serious, thinking he was giving her the space she needed for the podcast work, but Swift sensed something was up when she noticed him acting tense.
She remarked, “I kind of noticed that he was a bit nervous about the podcast,” recalling him saying, “My heart is racing… I know how much this means to you. I really just want this to be what you wanted.” She thought it was odd to see him this way, noting she had never seen him get so anxious before.
After they filmed, Travis popped the question, and Swift told Fallon, “I always wanted to do that.” She expressed her relief about the way he had managed to create the perfect setting with the curtains, describing it as “the best possible scenario.” The couple got engaged on August 26, after dating for two years.
Reports indicated that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end proposed with a vivid-cut diamond ring from a historical mine, designed by jeweller Kindred Lveck.
During her appearance with Fallon, Swift also addressed rumors about her timing during Selena Gomez’s wedding speech and stayed noncommittal about a potential Super Bowl offer, saying the NFL wouldn’t allow her to use her own footage. However, she confirmed that Ed Sheeran found out about her engagement on social media since “he doesn’t have a phone.”
