Michigan Teacher Sentenced for Sexual Offense Against Student

A teacher from a Michigan prep school has confessed to filming herself engaged in sexual acts with a teenage student she was tutoring at her home.

On Tuesday, 27-year-old Jocelyn Sanroman received a sentence of four to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to a serious sex offense involving a minor at her residence in Waterford. She was found guilty of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Sanroman was employed at Oakside Scholars Charter School in Waterford Township at the time of the incidents. Reports indicate that she recorded sexual interactions with a 16-year-old boy at her home. Colleagues noted that Sanroman had admitted to her misconduct, prompting a coworker to report her actions, which led to a police investigation.

In her defense, attorneys suggested that Sanroman had mental health issues, claiming that her actions stemmed from a “serious error in judgment.” They emphasized that she acknowledges her mistakes and is focused on personal improvement.

When questioned by the judge about her thinking during the incidents, Sanroman admitted, “My thoughts weren’t very good.”

During the proceedings, the judge commented on the severity of the situation, expressing concern over the violation of trust involved. “Taking advantage of a minor to record a video is a serious risk,” the judge remarked, calling the behavior “disgusting.”

A victim impact statement read in court highlighted the family’s struggles following the incident. The victim’s mother conveyed that their lives have been irreversibly altered. “I’ve watched as my son’s name was publicly judged and criticized,” she wrote, explaining how the situation led to her son becoming withdrawn and anxious. The family made the decision to transition him to online education to avoid further distress.

“His normal life, education, routine, and sense of security were taken away,” she added, expressing concern for both her son and other children affected by the situation.
