A former middle school teacher from Massachusetts, Tymond Tran, who previously received a national education accolade from Amazon, is facing serious allegations of raping a 14-year-old student during the 2022-23 academic year. The Essex County District Attorney’s Office stated that Tran, 38, from Hudson, New Hampshire, entered a not guilty plea in Essex County Superior Court to multiple charges, including child rape, indecent assault and battery, and distribution of obscene materials to a minor.
According to prosecutors, Tran was teaching eighth grade at Thurgood Marshall Middle School in Lynn when he allegedly committed these acts against the student. Despite these grave accusations, Tran is currently free, albeit under strict court-imposed conditions.
Judge John C. Fraser has mandated that Tran remain under house arrest, monitored by a GPS device. He can only leave for urgent medical appointments, court sessions, or visits from his attorney. Additionally, he is prohibited from having any unsupervised contact with minors, faces random checks of his electronic devices, and is banned from contacting victims or witnesses. He must reside at a specified address in Attleboro and cannot possess any material related to child sexual abuse.
Tran is set to return to court on August 26 for a pretrial conference. His attorney, Megan Stanley, has not responded to requests for comments regarding the case.
Interestingly, back in 2022, Tran was recognized as one of the recipients of Amazon’s Future Engineer Teacher of the Year Award, an honor intended to recognize educators who advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusivity while fostering interest in computer science and robotics among students.
The Lynn School District, where Tran taught from 2021 to 2024 before taking voluntary retirement, is currently collaborating with law enforcement on an independent investigation related to the allegations. District officials have expressed their shock and concern over the situation, emphasizing their commitment to supporting affected students and families.
