Sen. Ted Cruz Claims U.S. Winning War with Iran

Republican Senator Ted Cruz asserted that the U.S. is “undoubtedly winning” in its conflict with Iran. The three-term senator from Texas expressed to Fox News Digital that he believes President Donald Trump’s choice to initiate military action is pivotal—perhaps the most significant decision of his presidency.

“When you look at our military’s execution of this operation, it was an enormous success,” Cruz highlighted during a recent interview.

However, his views seem to clash with many Americans, who appear to be skeptical about the nearly month-long assault carried out by the U.S. and Israel against Iran.

Public Opinion Divided on the Conflict

Recent national surveys, including a new Fox News poll, indicate that a majority of Americans oppose a military strike. Notably, a stark partisan divide exists—with Democrats and Republicans holding differing opinions on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The military actions by the U.S. and Israel have led to the deaths of significant figures in Iran, like Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, and severely crippled the nation’s military forces. In retaliation, Iran launched attacks against Israel and several neighboring countries.

Moreover, Iran’s missile and drone attacks have targeted energy facilities throughout the Persian Gulf region. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route, has become nearly impassable, disrupting around 20% of the global oil supply and driving up fuel prices both in the U.S. and internationally.

Addressing the current military operations, Cruz claimed, “We have effectively dismantled their entire air defense system. We’ve taken out their short- and mid-range ballistic missiles and subjected their drone capabilities to serious damage.” He mentioned more than 9,000 military strikes and emphasized the sinking of 140 Iranian vessels, which he noted as the largest loss of naval ships since World War II.

Cruz Reflects on Personal Involvement

Cruz shared that he spent a significant amount of time with Trump just before the military strikes commenced. “The day prior to the operation, I was aboard Air Force One with him,” he recounted. They discussed whether it was wise to proceed or if negotiations were a better route.

He went on to express his belief that negotiating was futile. “The Ayatollah was negotiating in bad faith, and the Iranian government was at its weakest,” Cruz said.

The senator also pointed out that Iran has been in conflict with the U.S. for 47 years, branding it the “world’s largest terrorist financier.” According to the Fox News poll, about one-third of voters think U.S. military action will enhance safety, while 44% believe it makes the country less secure, with nearly a quarter predicting no change.

Cruz remains firm in his stance, stating, “The destruction of this system has made the U.S. virtually secure, which is a direct result of the president’s role as commander in chief.”
