Sen. Ted Cruz and CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Engage in Heated Discussion

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) had a contentious exchange with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins during a recent segment focused on the House Judiciary Committee hearing. The debate was sparked by Cruz’s call for President Trump to classify Antifa—a leftist extremist group—as a terrorist organization.

He highlighted the urgency of addressing left-wing terrorism, urging Trump and the Justice Department to “follow the money.” Cruz suggested that much of the violence we’ve witnessed isn’t spontaneous; rather, it’s orchestrated. This comment came in light of the case involving Tyler Robinson, who stands accused of the assassination of conservative figure Charlie Kirk.

The conversation took a sharp turn when Collins pushed back, asserting, “We don’t have a motive yet.” Cruz quickly countered her assertion, questioning, “Don’t we have any motivation yet? Really? Is that the CNN position?” His retort reflected disbelief at the suggestion that Robinson’s actions lacked any contributing factors.

The tone escalated further when Collins pointed out that law enforcement had yet to disclose any specific motivations in official documents. She accused Cruz of using semantics to distract from the reality that Robinson was a “left activist who hated Charlie Kirk.”

Cruz accused Collins of contributing to “misinformation,” citing a poll revealing that 41% of Democrats mistakenly believe Charlie Kirk’s murderer is a Republican. He implied that such misunderstandings stem from media narratives.

When Collins was asked about the poll’s implications, she didn’t respond directly. Instead, she asked Cruz if he believed right-wing groups should undergo the same scrutiny from the Justice Department as their left-wing counterparts.

Cruz asserted, “People who engage in violent acts should be prosecuted and go to prison.” He then chastised CNN for what he called its “bilateralism,” indicating that the focus on left-wing violence was often downplayed amidst a celebration from the left.
