Ted Cruz urges the US to provide weapons to Iranian protesters opposing the regime

Calls for Supporting Iranian Protesters

On Tuesday, Senator Ted Cruz urged the U.S. to provide arms to Iranian protesters amidst ongoing unrest in the country. This comes as Iranian-backed militias have issued threats toward the U.S. government.

Cruz expressed his views in a post on X, stating, “We must arm Iranian protesters. Now.” He added that the overthrow of the Ayatollah, a figure known for his anti-American rhetoric, would enhance America’s safety.

The Texas Republican’s remarks were a response to information shared by a Tehran-based source, which reported a rapidly worsening situation domestically as security forces intensify their crackdown on demonstrations.

The post also emphasized the dire circumstances faced by protesters, highlighting brutal actions by authorities. “They kill people in such a way… We’ve lost so many lives that no one is willing to go out anymore,” it detailed, underscoring the perils of public protests.

Additionally, reports indicate that more than 6,000 individuals have died in Iran, and protests began in late December driven by frustrations over economic difficulties, political oppression, and corruption.

As tensions rise, Cruz’s statements coincide with the deployment of U.S. troops to the region. Militias such as Iraq’s Kataib Hezbollah have declared readiness for “total war” if the U.S. strikes Iran, with threats of severe retaliation against American forces.

The leader of Kataib Hezbollah warned that enemies of the Islamic Republic would face dire consequences. Meanwhile, Yemen’s Houthis have also signaled a potential resurgence in attacks on shipping routes, indicating escalating regional tensions.

As the situation evolves, the U.S. continues to monitor the landscape, with military assets like the USS Abraham Lincoln arriving in the Middle East amid the ongoing unrest. Cruz’s comments reflect a significant stance on supporting the protests, yet the complexities of the geopolitical situation remain daunting.
