Sen. Ted Cruz’s New Year Resolutions for 2026
Senator Ted Cruz has set three New Year’s resolutions for himself, aiming to keep them throughout 2026. In a recent interview, he candidly shared his plans.
Weight Loss Goals
One of his main resolutions, like many people’s around this time, is to shed some pounds. Cruz mentioned that he hopes to lose 30 pounds this year, noting that he weighed 236 pounds on January 1, 2026. His target weight is 206—something he joked about, recalling how he weighed just 135 pounds during college. “People say I’m twice as big as I was back then,” he laughed.
Cruz indicated that he plans to stick primarily to a ketogenic diet, cutting out carbs in favor of meat, cheese, and vegetables, stating, “The keto diet may be tough, but it can yield real results.”
A Dry January
His second resolution? To participate in “Dry January,” abstaining from alcohol. He reflected on how much he enjoys a glass of red wine with dinner but acknowledged that it’s not conducive to his weight loss goals. Instead, he’s turned to sparkling water with lime and some vitamin water, saying it’s both refreshing and enjoyable.
He noted, “I’ve been surprised at how many of my friends are also getting through Dry January.” He recounted a get-together where guests brought non-alcoholic beer, allowing everyone to enjoy time together without the drinks.
Daily Bible Reading
Cruz’s final resolution is to read the Bible every day. He explained that balancing work, family, and other responsibilities can disrupt his routine, leading to inconsistency in his faith practice. Reflecting on this, he mentioned his daughters, who are now 17 and 15, and how their aging has brought different challenges to family time and rituals.
He expressed a desire to engage deeply with scripture, wanting the words of Jesus to influence his daily life, sharing that it’s a commitment he has long aspired to achieve. Despite sometimes feeling distracted by life’s demands, he aims to make reading the Bible a consistent part of his routine.
Looking Ahead
As the countdown to 2026 continues, Cruz feels optimistic about sticking to his resolutions and combining diet changes with an increased exercise routine, like playing basketball and doing daily push-ups.
On a personal note, Cruz also shared thoughts about his daughters, who are on the brink of significant life transitions. He seems reflective and perhaps a bit sentimental about how quickly time passes, feeling the urgency to cherish every moment as they prepare for their futures.
While discussing speculation about a potential presidential run in 2028, Cruz stated that for now, his focus remains on serving the people of Texas, emphasizing the importance of his role in the Senate. “That’s my priority right now,” he concluded.
