Teen abducted by Baltimore taxi driver escapes after hitting him with a fire extinguisher, documents say

A teenage girl was reportedly kidnapped by a questionable rideshare driver, who allegedly attacked her in his Baltimore basement, but she managed to escape by striking him with a fire extinguisher.

According to charging documents, Abubakarr Barrie, 23, picked up the 15-year-old after she accepted a ride outside her sister’s residence last Thursday.

Once inside the vehicle, the girl requested to be taken to a restaurant in the city, but Barrie drove in the opposite direction. When she pointed out the mistake, he supposedly became aggressive, putting her in a headlock.

Barrie then drove her to his home, where he took her to a basement room and told her to put her phone away and to remain quiet, the documents allege.

It was there that Barrie is accused of assaulting her, stripping her clothes and stabbing her.

In a remarkable act of bravery, the girl fought back, hitting him with a fire extinguisher before fleeing his home.

The girl, injured and without clothes, sought help from a neighbor by knocking on their door. The neighbor provided her with a phone so she could call emergency services and her mother.

She was subsequently treated at a local hospital for five stab wounds and a collapsed lung, as reported by authorities.

Barrie was later located by investigators with the information supplied by the girl. He has since been arrested and faces charges including attempted murder and assault.

At a hearing on Monday, his bond was denied, and he is scheduled to appear in court again on November 25.

No immediate contact information for Barrie’s attorney was available.
