Tragic Crash Claims Lives in Santa Clarita
A teenage driver, reportedly under the influence, caused a devastating accident in Santa Clarita last week, resulting in the deaths of a couple returning home from church. The crash has left their family and friends heartbroken.
Jenry and Patti Ortiz lost their lives, while their daughter sustained serious injuries described as “life-altering.” This tragic incident occurred at the intersection of Newhall Ranch and Bouquet Canyon roads around 11:15 p.m. on Friday, according to family sources.
The couple was heading back from a church service when they were struck by a 17-year-old male driver, who is currently being held at the Los Padrinos Juvenile Detention Center in Downey.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has charged the teenager with DUI and manslaughter following a breathalyzer test administered at the scene.
Sadly, Erin, their daughter, is facing significant recovery challenges due to her injuries, which are expected to require extensive medical care. A GoFundMe page has been set up by a family friend to assist with medical and funeral expenses.
Friends and family describe Jenry and Patti as dedicated, caring individuals who devoted their lives to their community and church. “They were always there to help others in need,” reads a tribute on the crowdfunding page. “Their unwavering faith and kindness impacted many lives. The world feels a bit dimmer without their vibrant presence.”
Erin’s brother, David, shared his concerns regarding her condition, noting that she is in considerable pain and difficulty moving. “She can’t really move much,” he mentioned, highlighting the physical toll the accident has taken on her.
In a touching statement, David reflected on their faith, saying, “As believers in Christ, there are many things we don’t understand, but we trust that there is a purpose behind everything and that we will find the strength to get through this.” He expressed a focus on managing his emotions while ensuring his sister’s well-being.
