A high school senior from Pennsylvania is facing numerous felony charges after being accused of leading a significant criminal operation involving sextortion and catfishing.
Zachariah Abraham Myers, an 18-year-old from McMurray, roughly 15 miles southwest of Pittsburgh, was arrested on Friday. He faces over 300 felony counts, which include human trafficking of a minor, sexual extortion, unlawful contact with a minor, and distribution of child sexual abuse materials, as indicated by court records.
Law enforcement claims that Myers, who is a student at Peters Township High School, used social media platforms like TikTok and Snapchat to connect with his victims, according to local news outlets.
Over the course of the investigation, authorities spoke with 30 minors, identifying at least 21 victims, as reported by WPXI.
It is alleged that Myers impersonated others using their photographs to deceive these victims. One of the identities he used was linked to an adult film actress from abroad, according to WTAE and WPXI.
Authorities noted that “Myers managed to persuade male juveniles into sending him explicit pornographic images and videos.”
Evidence retrieved from Myers’ cell phone potentially ties him to the alleged crimes.
Currently, Myers is being held at the Washington County Jail while awaiting a preliminary hearing. He has been denied bail, as authorities consider him both a danger to the community and a flight risk, according to court documents.
The Peters Township School District acknowledged the ongoing investigation in a statement, stressing their commitment to student safety.
“There is no immediate safety concern for the school, and we intend to continue cooperating fully with the investigation,” the district stated. They added that the well-being of students, staff, and families is their top priority, expressing gratitude for the local police’s efforts in addressing the situation.
As of now, the Peters Township School District and the Peters Township Police Department have yet to provide further comment regarding this matter.
