California Man Recaptured After Jewelry Heist

A man from California, accused of stealing jewelry, is back in custody less than a day after his release from prison. Authorities suspect that he committed the same crime while on pretrial probation.

Andre Wylie, 19, was apprehended last week when detectives from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department accused him of conspiring with two other men to carry out a jewelry store theft. This happened just hours after he was released from Placer County Jail, where he had pleaded guilty to robbery, conspiracy, and grand larceny.

According to investigators, Wylie entered a jewelry shop accompanied by two 18-year-olds, Andrew Ivey and Camerus Mayhand. It is alleged that while Wylie sat at the counseling desk, Ivey and Mayhand distracted the employees by browsing through the merchandise. During this distraction, they reportedly stole two pieces of jewelry and then quickly fled the scene.

Authorities later released surveillance footage that appeared to show the entire incident, indicating how the trio casually entered the store, moved around, and then dashed out the door.

Not long after, the Crime Suppression Unit of the Rancho Cordova Police Department found the suspects’ vehicle, leading to Wylie’s arrest and the recovery of the stolen items.

Interestingly, it was discovered that Wylie had been released from jail less than 24 hours prior and was still on probation for robbery-related charges. He, alongside Ivey and Mayhand, has now been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges of robbery, conspiracy, and grand larceny.

The sheriff’s office believes Wylie might be linked to other thefts and has advised anyone who recognizes him or has information to reach out to them directly.
